The largest variety of the hallucinogenic species of Psilocybe mushrooms seems to be observed in the neotropics particularly in Mesoamerica and in the countries of Brazil and Chile. A great number of the Psilocybe mushrooms found in these temperate regions such as Psilocybe cyanescens tend to grow in landscaped areas mulched with woodchips and are actually rather rare in natural settings that are far from places inhabited by humans.
